Incredible advancements in brain research and health studies have opened the door to understanding how adverse childhood experiences shape the individual, drive high cost social problems, and become an extremely powerful determination of educational and health outcomes across one's lifespan. This information, paired with OSPI's newly released "The Heart of Teaching and Learning" will provide the opportunity to learn, practice, and receive support for the most challenging situations.

Additional Information:

Second Steps:  provides steps for improving academics and social skills of students K-8.  Studies show that students with stronger social-emotional skills do better in school - and that's what the Second Step program is all about.  It teaches empathy, emotion-management, and problem solving skills.  In addition, K-5 lessons include Skills for Learning, and middle school lessons help students avoid peer pressure, substance abuse, bullying, and cyber bullying.  this is a great next step for a building looking to enhance the general strategies learned during the Compassionate Schools training.
