The purpose of ST.A.R.S. is to provide school districts with an easy-to-use, inexpensive and accessible tool for teachers, administrators and parents to access assessment results. ST.A.R.S. is a WWW-based tool that displays four types of assessment results at the same Time:
Each type of assessment includes graphs, Score strand explanations, links to lessons, explanations of the scoring and reports for printing. The WASL area contains links to the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements. Links to sample WASL questions and a Classroom Assessment area are intended for inclusion soon. ST.A.R.S. contains three major areas: Assessment Staff: Password-protected area to display results for groups of students selected by traits, classrooms, building, district, graduation year and by assessment results. There is no limit to the number or type of student traits that can be included. Assessment staff can view selected listings of student results sorted in any order, view totals, view reports, view results in a wide variety of graph styles and receive assessment results in an attached file to an electronic mail message. There is also a section for district assessment staff to upload, submit and edit the data files required for ST.A.R.S. Parents: Confidential Information-protected area to display results for the selected student. It is designed to be easy-to-use with limited options. It is the responsibility of the school district to submit the data files required for ST.A.R.S. All files are easily created/edited in a standard spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel.
